βš–οΈ Court rules in favor of Ripple!

In Dec 2022, The SEC filed a motion to seal a document called β€œthe Hinman document”, claiming that they are not relevant to Ripple's case.

If you haven’t been following the XRP case, the Hinman documents are arguably more important than the case itself.

It contains the internal emails and draft of the infamous speech given by former SEC Corporation Finance Division Director William Hinman at the Yahoo Finance All Markets Summit in June 2018, where he reportedly stated that Ether (the native token of the Ethereum blockchain), is not a security.

And guess what? The motion was denied.

Judge Analisa Torres for the U.S. District Court ruled that the Hinman documents are "judicial documents" subject to a strong presumption of public access.

So, what's really in those documents? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

Well, the public doesn't fully know, but here's what Brad Garlinghouse (CEO of Ripple) had to say after seeing these documents for the first time:

But it’s not a complete loss for the SEC

The court did grant their request to redact certain information, like names identifying details, and personal/financial information.

So, at least they've got that going for them. πŸ˜€

Would have been interesting to see what Gary's comments were in that document, now I'm pretty sure most of that would be redacted. 😬

Nevertheless, this ruling is a huge win for Ripple and the crypto community. πŸ†

In fact, Ripple's victory in court caused a 2.6% spike in the price of XRP! πŸš€πŸ“ˆ

We just hope that the SEC doesn't rain on Ripple's parade with an appeal because this case seems to be endless. 😩

Dear Lord, how long is this case going to go for? When we first heard about this case we were just getting ready to watch Elon on SNL talk about Dogecoin.πŸ˜„

πŸ†• Ledger Wallet's Controversial New Feature.

Attention, Ledger Wallet users! πŸ“£

Ledger has introduced a new feature in its latest firmware update 2.2.1.

It's called "Ledger Recover".

This feature encourages users to broadcast their seed phase to third-party companies for safekeeping.

Strangely at the point of posting this, the firmware release notes are not yet available on their website, but it is very real (see attached screenshot).

Now, get ready to scratch your head in disbelief.πŸ˜–

To use this service, users are to pay $9.99 monthly and provide a passport/national identity card issued by the European Union, the United Kingdom, Canada, or the United States.

And that's precisely what's pissing off a lot of people in the industry.

  • First, the fact that Ledger has a back door for your seed phrase is alarming.

  • Ledger has suffered data breaches in the past. So, if lightning strikes twice and they suffer another breach, hackers can now match the person's name & address with their wallet/coin holdings.

  • Government can now potentially compel Ledger (through court order) to help them identify who owns certain wallets.

Doesn’t it defeat the whole purpose of a cold wallet? This feels like an April fool post, except it's not April. πŸ˜€
