MetaMask Airdrop: The Truth Behind the Rumors

MetaMask themselves have come out and said it's a big fat lie.

Despite debunking the rumors, many crypto enthusiasts are still hopeful that an airdrop may happen in the future. Keep hope alive, I guess? 🤷‍♂️

How did this rumor even get started?

The rumors started spreading like wildfire after Joe Lubin, the co-founder of Ethereum and the CEO of ConsenSys, mentioned during a “fireside chat” session at ETHDenver 2023 that his firm is actively working to decentralize MetaMask and that the team intends to launch a token.

Of course, as soon as crypto enthusiasts hear the word "token", they start salivating. 😀

Interestingly, MetaMask saw a massive increase in activity following rumors, with the number of transactions reaching 21,460 from a baseline of approximately 8,000 on March 27th.

There you have it folks!

There’s no airdrop happening anytime soon, so if you see any website asking to check your wallet or check if you’re eligible, well now you know it's a scam.

Stay vigilant and tuck your wallets away. 😀

Euler Exploiter says ‘Sorry,’ and Returns Stolen Funds

He sent a message through the blockchain apologizing for his action and promising to return the stolen money.

Here's the exact message he sent:

“Jacob here. I don’t think what I say will help me in any way but I still want to say it. I fucked up. I didn’t want to, but I messed with others’ money, others’ jobs, others’ lives,” the hacker said in an encoded blockchain message, asking for forgiveness.

Euler had offered the hacker a deal:

Return 90% of the funds within 24 hours (and keep the 10% without any legal action), or we will launch a $1 million reward bounty on you

Well, it worked!

Although it's passed 24 hours already, I wonder if Euler will still allow him to keep the 10%. 🤔

Anyway, on Saturday, the hacker returned 51,000 ETH (about $88 million) to a wallet under the Euler team’s control, and more recently, an additional four transactions of 7,800 ETH and $30 million in the DAI stablecoin.

The hacker has promised to return the rest of the money, he said the delay is just to preserve his identity (and ensure safety).

Let's see how things unfold!
