📉 Worldcoin: Iris Scan Project Flops!
Worldcoin, a crypto project that allowed customers to scan their iris in exchange for 25 WLD (the project’s native token) was launched on July 24.
Before its launch, the project had about 2 million pre-sign-ups but like a firework fizzling out too soon, interest faded following the actual launch.
The total first-day sign-ups across all sites is around 1,200, with Hong Kong pulling in the highest number of 200 signs up, according to a report published by South China Morning Post.
So, what caused the shift in interest?
The project drew scrutiny and commentary from many well-known names in the crypto community, like Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin. See what he had to say here.
An MIT report even suggested that the developers behind the project attracted the first million using deception, cash handouts and more, especially in developing countries where data laws are notably weak.
I mean, it’s an absurdly low offer, why else would anyone sign up?🤷
